I love taking chunks of wood that I find and making bowls.  Most of the wood I use comes from trees that have been downed from storm damage, construction, or tree trimming.  I also get a bunch of my wood from my 36 acre hunting property just north of Holmen.  I have even raided the firewood pile.   I never cut a live tree down just for the wood.

Most of the bowls that I create just happen.  I usually have no idea what the bowl is going to look like.  It sounds kind of strange, but the bowl just happens.  It creates itself.  I always try to incorporate holes, cracks, live/natural edges and bark inclusions into my bowls.

I simply let the wood be the wood.  I celebrate the bowl’s natural imperfections.  After all, nature is far from perfect.  That’s what makes every bowl beautiful in its own way.

I have bowls made from oak, hickory, Russian olive, maple, birch, cherry, box elder, apple, pear and walnut.

I can also custom make bowls from landowner's trees.  If you have a special tree with sentimental value, please contact me to see what can be done with it. I’ve made some very special bowls from client's trees.

Hello everyone, my name is Steve Tischer

I hand make wood bowls from my home workshop in Holmen WI.

My woodworking journey began when I was in middle school.  I was always fascinated in creating things from wood.  This passion has stayed with me ever since.  Most of my past projects consisted of making tables, end tables and even dressers and armoires.  I even went through a barnwood phase of woodworking and still do some to this day.

Several years ago, I decided to change things up a bit.  I decided to buy a lathe and try wood turning.  It has been a labor of love ever since.  And in 2022, Steve’s Bowls was born.
